Work Experience
Redstone Research
I currently am in charge of web and publication design at Redstone Research. In addition to design, I am greatly involved in creating a marketing strategy to establish new business to build the new company.
Redstone Research conducts and manages clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies and their various new trial drugs. I joined the Redstone team in August of 2009 and immediately began creating a cohesive brand image through their web site and print materials. The team of professionals and doctors that started Redstone have years of experience in clinical trial research and withhold all the tools needed to establish a flourishing and respectable company. My role has been to better showcase the company and bring to life their competitive edge through marketing and design.
Reliance Commercial Realty
In the fall of 2009 I began working with Reliance as a freelance designer. The company was new, but with the years of experience amongst its team, it began expanding despite the economic downfall. My contributions consisted of creating a web site that allowed the company to be transparent to potential tenants and property owners. It allowed them to see the sites and the leadership team they would be working with. In addition to the web site, I designed flyers for each property that gave the company a fresh look and better organized the property data. I then continued the theme from the flyers onto billboards that were placed at each property site.
Currently, I manage their web site and keep it updated with properties. My work with Reliance Commercial Realty has led to additional contract work with the Emerson Group. The Emerson Group is a property development and management company in Austin that works closely with Reliance on several properties.
Muscular Dystrophy Association
During the summer of 2009 I was the Regional Public Affairs Coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Houston, Texas. This internship allowed me to work on several projects and to be involved in many aspects of the organization's fundraising events and public relations. In addition to promotions and media, I had the opportunity to design event invitations, thank you gifts, newsletters and logos.
As a part of my PR duties, I wrote features on MDA families which were published in papers as human interest stories. I also submitted press releases to the media about each MDA event and several were published in newspapers and on Radio and TV web sites. I organized and executed several promotions to advertise the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon in which I collaborated with marketing directors of major businesses in Houston.
With my background and experience in design, I was able to go beyond the PR and writing duties of my internship and contributed by working on design projects. When a graphic or project was needed, I was trusted to manage and execute the assignment and then presented the final product at staff meetings. Managing these projects allowed me to gain experience in working with printer shops and with the different departments within MDA.
Since the summer of 2009, I have kept in contact with MDA and was asked to design an invitation for one of their major fundraisers. The opportunity to continue working with MDA after my internship, through contract work, allowed me to further my experience while maintaining the wonderful working relationships I previously established.
Captiva Media Group
In the spring of 2009 I interned with Captiva Media Group in San Marcos, Texas. I was involved in many different projects due to the company's expansion into several different markets.
One aspect of the company is Captiva Records. During the SXSW music festival in Austin, TX, Captiva hosts an "unofficial" showcase in the heart of downtown. In preparation of that event I collaborated with coworkers and designed posters, banners and flyers to advertise the bands as well as the showcase. As a record label, Captiva holds responsibilities in promoting their own bands, writing bios, and creating CD packaging in which I took on a piece of each task.
Another market of Captiva, which was still in the development stage, is Captiva Tequila. Because this business venture was still in the prepping stages, I mainly was involved in research for marketing and distributing the product.
The Captiva Media Group is geared toward filming and editing pod casts for medical research teams and new medical products and procedures. The company has worked with the St. Jude medical team and continues to expand into different areas of medicine. Currently Captive Media Group is pursuing sports medicine and injury prevention. The company hopes to work with medical professionals by placing their research and innovative ideas into online pod casts for the benefit of the sports community.
